FSA Vero Compact CranksetThe FSA Vero Compact Crankset is made for riders on a budget looking to updated an older bike that's still using a square tapered bottom bracket. It's a great choice when you want to replace an old, worn-out standard crank with the wider gearing of a compact double. The price makes it easy to take the "compact double plunge" and see if it's right for you.

The Vero comes with solid, cold forged 6061 aluminum crank arms and 7075 stamped aluminum chainrings. The weight without bottom bracket comes in at a portly 688g. If you're in the market for this crankset though, you're probably not too worried about weight anyway.

The finish is anodized black matte with subtle white FSA graphics. It's a pretty generic looking compact crankset, which is good since it will probably end up being a replacement crankset in most cases. Crank-arm lengths of 165, 170, 172.5 and 175mm ensure that you'll find the size to match your leg length. The 50/34 gearing is designed to give you the climbing capacity of a triple without complicating things with an extra chainring. With a price between $60 and $80, the FSA Vero Compact Crankset is a great way to update an old bike without breaking the bank.

  1. Jason says:

This crankset replaced the worn out standard double on my commuter bike. Wow, what a difference. Shifting is much cleaner now. That might also be due to the tune-up I got when the new crank was installed, but a step up nonetheless.

This isn’t a high-performance piece of equipment you’d buy for your new carbon race bike, but perfect as a replacement crankset for an outdated one.

The crankset itself is ok. Not too light, but seems durable enough and shifting is decent with a SRAM chain and Rival group. Can’t say much for the BB that came with it though. Wore out after a year and a half of moderate riding. That said, I’m generally hard on bikes and probably don’t clean mine as much as I should.
