SRAM Rival Compact CranksetThe SRAM Rival compact crankset with GXP bottom bracket offers good stiffness, a reasonable weight and a great price versus Shimano 105. Rival is SRAM's lowest price group and it serves up a lot of bang for your buck. Much like the Ultegra and Shimano 105 cranksets, the Rival crankset uses hollow forged one piece crank-arms. The crank-arms are made from 6066 alluminum using what SRAM calls Open Core Technology. The Rival compact crankset also uses an integrated alloy spider which further enhances stiffness and strength.

SRAM's PowerGlide chainrings offer smooth, crisp shifts with minimal noise. They use what SRAM calls "OpenGlide tooth ramping" to ensure consistent, high-speed front end shifts. A 50/34 tooth combo lets riders tackle a wide variety of terrain from rollers to long steep climbs.

The Rival crankset comes with a SRAM GXP bottom bracket that's specially designed to handle a wide variety of bottom bracket shells. The look is understated and should fit in nicely with other Rival or 105 components.

The SRAM Rival compact crankset represents an overall great value compared with it's competitors. Reliable shifting combined with impressive stiffness and weight savings make this crankset a must for any cyclist looking to stretch a dollar to the max.

  1. Will says:

This is a very solid crankset. I’ve been running Shimano for years and I threw this on my cross bike which has a full Rival group. Seems to be a pretty well made crankset. Light enough, but doesn’t seem quite as stiff as the Ultegra crank on my other road bike. I’m not racing cross anymore so I thought I make my cross bike a rain bike. I was a little bit skeptical of the compact gearing at first, but I’m pretty comfortable with it now. Gets a little annoying on long flat roads, but overall I’m happy with it.
